104.9 the River and Schoedinger’s The Extra Mile

Kelli gives her spare time volunteering at a local cancer hospital, giving all she has to create smiles. Scott is a high-school principal who collected Christmas Gifts for students who might go without and took in a foreign exchange student with no where to go. Eugene spent countless hours volunteering at a local organization that provides life-skills and jobs to young men in desperate need…

Like these three, who do you know who’s doing amazing things in our community, big or small?

The Extra Mile is back for another year and planning to be bigger than ever. Our goal is to recognize and REWARD amazing people who are doing amazing things for our community or for others – something that is very important both to The River and to our friends at Schoedinger Funeral and Cremation Services.

We need your help finding people who are making a difference. Does that description bring someone to your mind? Tell us their story below – and they could be the next person we pick to honor! We’ll share their story on this page and surprise them with a gift to thank them for all they have given to those around them.

Linda from Columbus
November Winner

Read Linda's Story

Linda was nominated by a member of her church, Carla. Though Linda has retired from teaching 1st grade after 36 years, her love for children has only grown. Any time there is a children’s event or activity at the church, she is there giving her time to help. She is also EXTREMELY generous! She frequently gives out free books to the kids. A lot of them. She bought 1,000 books for their VBS attendees and over 200 for the Trunk or Treat this year! At 77 years old, she is an absolute joy and inspiration to all of the members of her community.

Deborah from Columbus
September Winner

Read Deborah's Story

Deborah was nominated by her friend Jen – she has been working in the library at Shady Lane Elementary for years – and while she encourages the kids to love books and reading, she has gone the extra mile to make sure she’s there. Whenever there’s a job, she is the first to volunteer to stay after school, or get there early. She keeps a stockpile of supplies in her office for kids who can’t afford them.  And on top of that, she helps raise her grandkids and is always out in the neighborhood, sharing her smile. We’re proud to name Deborah our Extra Mile Winner for September!

Brittany from Columbus
July Winner

Read Brittany's Story

Brittany was nominated by her friend Alyson. Brittany is the Junior High School Youth Pastor at The Church Next Door, and she was diagnosed with MS last year. Despite undergoing treatments, she was smiling and walking around – never even letting an active attack deter her. She goes above and beyond for her teens, and she’s always ready to share joy and encouragement with everyone she meets. Hearing about her courage and her faith, we knew we had a gem on our hands – and we’re proud to name Brittany our July Extra Mile Winner!
