Cory Asbury – Reckless Love
“There’s no shadow You won’t light up
Mountain You won’t climb up
Coming after me
There’s no wall You won’t kick down
Lie You won’t tear down
Coming after me”
I was in church the first time I heard “Reckless Love.” As I stood in worship, tears running down my face, I was struck by the truth captured in this song. After church, I scrambled to find out “Who sings that amazing song?!” so I could listen to it on repeat the entire drive home.
The answer is Cory Asbury. He’s a worship leader, songwriter, and pastor who is a part of Bethel Music.
The song is based on Luke 15, a Bible story that might be familiar to you. In the parable of the lost sheep, Jesus illustrates the importance of the ONE.
For Cory, that story is personal.
“That’s the story of my life. He came after me when I was broken, when I was lost, a young kid with regret as deep as the ocean. He found me, He took me by the hand, and He put a new song in my mouth.” –Cory Asbury
We can all probably identify with this story in some way. We all have our own examples of brokenness, of wandering hearts, of feeling worthless, of being in such a deep, dark place, you thought you’d never get out.
If I’m honest, I struggle with some of those things daily. That’s the reason I was so blown away the first time I heard “Reckless Love.” It’s the reason I’m still blown away every time I hear it.
When Jesus sacrificed himself for you and me so long ago, He saved us.
“Reckless Love” reminds me, He saved you then, and He continues to save you every single day. He fought for you then, and He continues to fight for you now. He left the ninety-nine to find you, and continues to leave the ninety-nine every time you need brought back. And He does it gladly, because he cares for you.
Nothing can stand in the way of the Father’s love for you.
