DIY Mason Jar Snow Globes

Mason Jar DIY Snow GlobeIt’s post-Christmas time, which means the holiday rush is over, New Years is about to come and go, and kids are going to be running around the house on their holiday break. If you want an awesome craft for you and the kids to do during those cold cabin fever days this winter, here’s a great Mason Jar Snow Globe DIY project. Let’s be real though – adults can have a blast with this, too.

All you need is:

  • a recycled jar or mason jar with a lid that fits tightly
  • your “landscape” (whatever items you want in your snow globe)
  • waterproof glue
  • glitter
  • glycerin

  1. Take the (clean) lid off of your jar and use the waterproof glue to adhere your object to the lid. Let dry as long as the glue requires. I coated mine in a fake white glitter snow gel that I found to hide the glue marks, but that’s definitely optional.
  2. Fill the jar with water but leave a little room so that it doesn’t overflow when you put the lid back on.
  3. Add however much glitter you want.
  4. Add a couple drops of glycerin to make the glitter float.
  5. Screw the lid on the jar. I glued around the lid of mine to ensure that water didn’t leak out.

Wanna get creative?

  • Use recycled bottles of all sizes (pasta sauces, baby food bottles, etc.) to make a winter wonderland.
  • Paint little woodland animals in gold or silver oil-based paint to give it some bling.
  • Put green or blue food coloring in the water it to add some color to our dreary Ohio winters.

Shake and enjoy!
